That magical thing they call iZettle.

Before you read all this text, you have to know that this blog was not designed to do large write-ups like this one.. so you WILL get sleepy-eyes from this .

Anyways, as you all know by now, we opened up a shop a few weeks ago. It seemed like the natural next step after doing web/ad/print for 10 years, you know?

Since the store is just a compliment to our real business, and nothing we're expecting to make us a lot money (if any, it's more of a showcase for what we do outside work), well, since we don't plan on selling super mucho things, we had scrapped the idea of accepting cards all together. Reason being that it would cost us a lot of money, even if we didn't sell anything, we'd stand to lose a great big deal each month.

Enter stage, left, iZettle!

We've all heard of Square of course, the card-swipe-enabler for your iPhone (and, I guess, iPad). Well, iZettle is like square, only it feels a whole lot safer since it utilizes the Chip which all EU credit cards have. Oh, and it's Swedish.

We knew this was the thing we needed.

After some lobbying and screaming like a little kid, we managed to be accepted into the closed beta of iZettle (supposedly they're going out of Beta within a couple of weeks). We received our little iZettle module and an .app after 2-3 days (these guys are FAST, like lightning!), and within seconds, we were up and running.

I'm not gonna go into details too much. But it really really works. I was a little bit afraid that it would be buggy as hell since the iZettle people kept telling me to remember that it was still in beta. But nope. Worked fine.

You start the .app, plug in the card-dongle, insert card, card gets checked, and if it's ok, you go ahead and fill out some stuff. You fill out the price of course, and what item you're selling/the customer is buying, and then you can take a picture of the item (that's pretty dope, and looks good on the receipt).

When talking to iZettle on the phone, it sounded as if the add-description feature, which right now is "only one item/sale", would be getting an update, so that you can have all the items you have in your store in the .app from start, with images and shit, so when selling something, you just find it in your list and add as many things as you please. I hope this is coming, since that's pretty much the only issue I had with the service.

Anyways, when everything is inserted and filled out, the customer gets to sign for the purchase (with a finger, which turned out to be pretty tricky), and you're done! Well, if you're selling stuff above 200:-, you have to ask the customer for their social security number too, something that's supposed to make the customer feel safer about using a brand new service.. the jury is still out on that one.

When everything is done, you can email the receipt directly to the customer, and the the customer can share it on facebooks and whatnot. The receipt looks good, has all the info about the purchase including geotag of where you bought the product.. and that is pretty damn awesome.

iZettle is a wonderful service, and it fucking works. It will however be fun to see what happens when this hits apple's .app store and everyone and your mum can accept cards..
